The boat was fast and felt super stiff in the big chop conditions. The glass and woodwork is on par with the best Thistle builders in the class. Alex clearly has an eye for detail.

Greg Griffin,

Speed-tested 4052

Over a five-day period we sailed 4052, the newest Thistle, in light air and up to 15+ knots. There is no question that the boat is solid, well-built and fast.

Wayne Pignolet,

Speed-tested 4052

Alex made some great modifications to the GMW design. The woodwork is excellent, and the quality of the fiberglass joints is outstanding. All in all, I could not be more pleased with the boat.

Fred Hunger,

Owner of 4052

I was hugely impressed with Alex, his shop, and his construction techniques. I have been sailing for over 50 years. This is my first new boat, and Kingfisher (4075) is a beauty!

Mike Minett,

Owner of 4075

I knew 3951 was in need of repairs, paint and bright work. During the pandemic of 2020 was a perfect time to have it done. I was hesitant to take the boat to Alex at Beacon Composites because I personally had not seen any of his work. I had only heard from a couple people that he had done good work. After talking to Alex I agreed to take my boat to him. I stripped the boat of all the hardware and took it to his shop. He emailed me updates with photos during the process. Alex did an amazing job. I am really pleased with the paint and varnish work. I wished we had weighted the boat before and after. Alex has sailed with me and is very knowledgeable of the boat. He is very open to discussions and very willing to share his knowledge and advise on projects. I have shared with him repairs I have done such as replacing the wood in the bow stem. He was very helpful in advising me through the project. I would recommend him for any of your boating needs.
